While not diving too far into spoiler territory, I will say that the twists and turns this movie take are pretty insane but by the end it’s actually quite emotional. Watching as a 31 year old, this version is basically how I assume highschool is now for kids. Which isn’t easy considering everyone came to play in this flick.ĭirector, McG, has this amazing way of taking modern day teenagers and their lives and turning into a realistic yet also over the top view of 2020 high school life. All the way from our lead Cole down to the police officer that tells the parents, “if he’s not back by tonight I’ll call ICE…ICE…BABY.” Every second of this movie is filled with fun.Īnd how fucking great is Phoebe? Jenna Ortega completely knocked this role out of the park. What I really enjoy though is that this movie utilizes every character on screen to perfection. There’s more over the top gore and kill scenes, there’s more comedy, and way more story. I think what makes this movie so special is that it somehow took the charm and ridiculousness of the first flick and amped it up for the sequel.

“….I have a penis” “I know".” This series has completely nailed the horror comedy sub-genre. Firstly, I have not laughed out loud that much watching a movie in a long time. I had to jump in here and add to the review because holy shit you guys I love this movie. In short, it’s one fantastically fun movie, which is really what we need this year. It plays like a hybrid of a Phil Lord and Chris Miller comedy with the stylish action violence of an Edgar Wright movie. If you thought the first one was dumb, yeah you’re really not going to like this one, but if you love this type of stuff it will likely make your favorites of the year list. Though this brings up my one nitpick about the movie, it’s clearly made by people of my age group and Gen X, as kids today are just not getting down to Das EFX and Young MC and making out to Foreigner. It’s an ultra violent, bloody good time, with a killer soundtrack. McG and his people had a challenge ahead of them but they pulled it off. It’s really hard to do a good sequel in any genre, but especially, I think, in horror. It’s up to Cole, and the new weird girl at school Phoebe (Jenna Ortega- Insidious Chapter 3 ) to survive the night and stop the cult, as well as the returned to life cult from the first movie (Robbie Ammell, Bella Thorne, Hana Mae Lee, Andrew Bachelor) who are back as well to finish the job they didn’t get done the first time around. …a trap, as she and her friends are in the same cult, and are trying to complete the ritual that began in the first movie.
